Stephen Jacob MBA MBPR P. Agric

Chief Executive Officer

Stephen Jacob is the Chief Executive Officer from BASIS Registration Ltd. He joined BASIS in 2011 following a career in practical farm management, agricultural business consultancy and seed production and brings a wealth of experience to his role from a strong commercial background. He has an MBA and BSc Hons in Biology from the Open University and is a long standing member of the BASIS Professional Register.  Stephen has a keen interest in all things agricultural, especially integrated farm management and emerging technologies.

Stephen resides in the beautiful Peak District national park and enjoys the great outdoors and all that it has to offer.

Sue Mason

Examinations & Training Manager

Sue joined BASIS in 1995 and started work coordinating Nominated Storekeeper Training Courses and processing exam results for BASIS, FACTS and Advanced Module Exams.  Since that time many more courses and exams have been introduced which Sue now manages, including the BASIS Diploma and the accreditation of BASIS Exams.  

Before working at BASIS, Sue spent many years working in London including a number of years at Eurotunnel, before a period of travelling.

Out of work Sue enjoys time gardening and at the allotment, holidays and spending time with family and friends.

Michele Williams

Professional Register & Accounts Manager

Michele joined BASIS in 1992 as assistant to the Registrar.   Her role was assisting with the Professional Register. Over the years, new Registers and Schemes have been introduced and Michele now manages all of those.

One of her other main roles includes awarding CPD points to all the events. She is also the Accounts Manager, dealing with all aspects of accounting for the business.

Before she joined BASIS, she worked for the Central Agricultural Training Board and Staffordshire Farmers, both based in Ashbourne, so has been involved with the farming industry for quite a few years.

Out of work, Michele loves walking in the countryside, reading, listening to music and going to 60s festivals.

Lindsay Smith-Boam

Lindsay has been with BASIS since 2002 after a time in Recruitment Consultancy.

She manages the storage and distribution, RAMPS, BACCS and Amenity Assured side of BASIS. Lindsay manages the Assessment Team and the software for their visits ensuring our registered distributors meet legislation and good practice standards. We allow her out of the office occasionally as she really likes meeting distributors, store keepers, committee members and others who she has spoken to on the phone over the years. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, gardening and family time.

Aliona Jones MBPR

Aliona was delighted to join BASIS in July 2014 as Business Development Coordinator and has been excited by the variety of projects and the powerful positive ethos in British agriculture. After a 5 year gap from agriculture, working in the international vegetable oils sector, returning to the farming sector has proved an excellent move. Aliona is keen to continue working with BASIS stakeholders and promote our organisations values.

Before coming to the UK from Moldova, Aliona worked in agribusiness and was focused on the sale and supply of pesticides, seeds and irrigation systems. Her passion for agriculture grew out of a rural background and this led her to choose an academic path through biology and chemistry, culminating in a PhD at a Romanian university where she also worked as a lecturer. Her research was looking into integrated pest management systems in horticulture, utilising the mathematical modelling of biological processes.

Aliona loves living in the Peak District, has a passion for walking and exploring this beautiful part of the world.

Andrew Boulding

Andrew is the Data Manager for BASIS Registration Ltd. Joining in April 2018, his role is to further develop the digitisation of the company. He studied at Harper Adams gaining a BSc Hons in Agriculture before working in the agricultural service industry. In 2000 Andrew retrained in computing doing an MSc at Sheffield Hallam University. Since then he has worked predominantly with databases in the business intelligence work-space.

Outside of work Andrew enjoys gardening, motorcycling and working on the family smallholding.

After previously working in the banking & legal sector in Spain for several years. Jessica joined BASIS about 8 years ago assisting the Exams & Training and the Professional Register department, from mainly preparing BASIS exam papers, dealing with CPD events to assisting the members how to keep up to date their accounts and general training queries.

One of Jessica's main roles is focusing in the development and administration of the BASIS website and the BASIS-Moodle Platform.

In her spare time Jessica enjoys photography, languages and painting.

Kerry started working for BASIS in March 2014 after doing the administration for a lettings company based in Nottingham.

Within BASIS Kerry works in the Exams and Training Department; processing exam results, setting up candidates on Moodle using the Turnitin software and assisting with exam or course related enquiries.

Outside of work Kerry enjoys socialising with friends, listening to music, photography and looking after her pet rabbit called Rabbit!

I have been working at BASIS since 2011 and enjoy the busy and varied environment.

I enjoy the new challenges and the regular telephone contact with many of our customers that more often than not ends or starts in laughter...

My role involves helping to look after stores and the Amenity Assured Standard scheme, being the point of contact to ensure if our customers have any queries regarding their annual assessment I can help or find out Information that is required. Discuss registering new Companies or what would be required to register a new store.

I help look after our Assessment team, to provide any information that will help them in their Role when visiting our customers. I also try and develop a close working relationship with the Fire and Rescue Services and Environment Agencies throughout the country, helping stores meet their Code of Practice Requirements.

I love chocolate and as little exercise as I can get away with to compensate for it!!

Having experience in all three departments, Karen has a broad knowledge of the business and currently works in accounts dealing with income and also data cleaning of the BASIS System database.

Away from work, Karen spends a large proportion of her time outdoors, walking, caving or gardening.

Ali came to BASIS on a 5 week contract to help out with a new project, that was 2 years ago and she is still here!

She works 3 days a week looking after the Amenity Training Register and preparing exam papers.

Away from work, Ali helps out at her children’s school, being an active member of the Parent Association. She also enjoys reading and baking.

Martine Carter

Martine joined BASIS Registration in April 2015. She is one of the  Exams & Training Administrators dealing with the Rat Control for Gamekeepers courses, some Accounts processing and queries, and some CPD.

She previously worked as a Trainer & Product Specialist for 8½ years in a computer software company implementing software in specialist NHS clinics, and before that spent 24½ within The Post Office covering a variety of roles including Management Tutor, Cash Centre Manager, Stock Manager, Inward Remittances Manager, Remittance Unit clerk, Operations Branch Clerk and Counter Clerk, so has a wealth of experience in administration, procedures and dealing with people by phone, email and in person

Outside of work she enjoys swimming, cycling, reading and watching films, and less frequently, climbing, ‘via ferrata’ and skiing. She is also a blood donor, and has ‘retired’ from caving and scuba diving.

Chrissie Webster

Chrissie joined BASIS in 2016 and worked in the Professional Register and Exams and Training departments, mainly putting together examination packs and helping with exam results. Chrissie has now moved to work solely into the Professional Registers department and is now the new PROMPT Co-ordinator.

Chrissie gained an hons degree from Birmingham University in Sports Therapy. Alongside working for the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre. Away from work Chrissie enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking and baking and outdoor adventures. She has 2 small children that keep her on her toes.

Within BASIS she is part of the Exams and Training Department, she processes exam results at the moment, however she will go on to train in other areas of the department.

Outside of work, Ellie loves socialising with friends, shopping, baking and taking her dog Mitzi on walks.

Jay joined BASIS in April 2018, within BASIS he is part of the Exams and Training Department. After working for the NHS for over 13 years in various roles after graduating from the University of Derby.

Away from work, Jay is currently in the process of buying his own home in Ashbourne and enjoys spending time with his friends and family, especially his nephew and godson, Ewan. Jay is a cat lover who also enjoys going on day trips to places of interest, e.g. Alton Towers or Chatsworth House, dining out and going to the theatre.
