Having extensive experience of continuous professional development (CPD), being the owner of a pest management business and coming from an agricultural family I feel that I would be ideally placed to represent the interests of the pest management sector on the BASIS Membership Committee. With my background I aim to inform CPD developments that raise the professional status within the sector, across industry and with the general public.

I have well established contacts within the pest management sector and regularly maintain my own CPD to ensure that I keep up to date with this rapidly changing and diverse sector. Having owned my own pest management business for the past six years I have a good knowledge of the challenges faced as a result of changes to legislation along with the daily challenges faced by business owners, managers and employees.

I am proactive, confident and have excellent negotiation and communication skills. For over 18 years I have been a trainer and instructor, including in the pest management sector. I have previously established and managed CPD provision to ensure that over 2500 employees were able to meet national professional standards.

I have established and organised multi agency groups relating to the development of CPD across the educational sector, this included liaising with local, regional and national Government representatives. I have extensive experience of strategic business development, workforce planning, training needs analysis and workforce development. In a previous position, as a Project Manager, I managed an organisation, with 3000 employees, to achieving corporate Investors In People (IIP).

Brief history.
1971 - 1982 Engineering Officer Merchant Navy (Carried out fumigation of holds carrying grain and certified shoreside storage including railway wagons as part of my role)
1983 - 1989 Government Officer responsible for "Specialised Services" to sensitive areas of Government. Last position based at Chelsea Barracks, London (Live in post). Duties to include management of Pest Control Services in MoD London District.
1989 - 2009 Various companies including Sales Director at Gallagher Group (Animal Management and Security), Facilities Management to include management of Pest Control services etc
2010 - present. Bought Pestforce Wiltshire and West Berkshire (Swindon, Marlborough, Hungerford and Newbury). Became RSPH Assessment Centre in 2012 to deliver RSPH Qualifications.I also registered as a Basis Event Organiser.

Previously (1998) I qualified as a NVQ Assessor and Internal verifier to deliver many business related qualifications. I also gained qualifications in teaching such as PTLLS and became a member of the Institute for Learning which is now Society for Education and Training.

I delivered training and assessments mainly in Pest Control related fields but focused on firearms and business continuity.

I sit on the RSPH Sector Advisory Panel in Pest Management and also the Pest Control Education and Training Forum.

Basically I have been involved with Pest Control in some form or another for over 35 years with direct, daily involvement since 2010. I am extremely passionate about good standards, especially training, and feel the CPD system is the way forwards. It does need to grow and develop but this is a natural process and may only need some guidance to tune it. I have to say that I was surprised that alternative schemes for CPD in Pest Control were being launched. I'm not sure if this is positive or negative but it does highlight that CPD is the way forwards and I firmly believe that BASIS PROMPT should be the scheme of choice.

I am 30 year old family man and have a have been in the pest industry for 11 years. I started my career with Rentokil in 2007 where I moved from Technician into sales, after 2 years I moved to Ecolab as an Account Executive where I won various awards as rookie sales of the year, BESMA new sales professional of the year and was a member of the BESMA sales team of the year award. I left Ecolab in 2014 and started working for London Network for Pest Solutions (formally London Borough of Newham ) as a Technician and in April 2018 I became the Operations Manager.

Currently I manage a team of 10 Technicians, with overall responsibility for all aspects of service delivery. LNPS places quality of service as its highest priority and to this end I am responsible for ensuring regular Q/A checks, all staff training, LNPS does not put a financial limit on staff training so I am able to cherry pick the best courses, ensuring excellent staff are able to deliver excellent service delivery, and this is backed up by regular (monthly) accompanied QAs, customer satisfaction surveys, annual appraisals, monthly team meetings with high quality relevant toolbox talks and presentations.

I am passionate about our industry and applaud all of our unsung heroes protecting public health every day and a key to our individual success is Basis Prompt, ensuring a quality up to date delivery of business through CPD.
